Our skin comes into contact with many products daily, many of which are poorly regulated + contain toxins, hormone disruptors, heavy metals, + carcinogens. Since our skin is the largest organ, absorbing everything put on it just as if we ate it, its imperative to our internal health + skin health (heeyyyy glowing skin!) to nourish our skin with only the best.

Since products can get expensive + vary in effectiveness, switching over to nontoxic products can seem intimidating. I’ve spent years refining my beauty regimen, + giving products my personal yay or nay. Here are my favorite picks from both premium beauty companies + the drugstore. What gives food their color? Pigments! What are pigments? Antioxidants! Antioxidants fight the renegade, destructive free radicals (oxidants) that are byproducts of daily bodily processes such as breaking down sugars, enzymes, and medicines or fighting off colds. They also come from environmental exposure through air pollution, smoke, and alcohol.

While our bodies are extraordinary machines, with built-in detoxing systems, certain lifestyle choices can help keep those systems running at full capacity. Eating a colorful diet is one habit that can help flood the body with varying plant compounds that combat these free radicals before they damage cells + lead to disease. Different colors target different areas of the body (i.e. brain, organs, skin, etc.)
