Heart Power Cherry Beet Smoothie

beet smoothie.jpg

I’m always looking for ways to incorporate beets into my diet. They are full of goodness, one of those things being naturally occurring nitrates. Plant-sourced nitrates go through a couple of conversions in our bodies to form nitric oxide, a powerful neurotransmitter needed for optimal circulation and overall heart health. I like to buy organic beets cooked and vacuum-sealed, such as the Love Beets brand. Keeping those on hand makes this smoothie easy to whip up in just a few minutes. I use a Vitamix blender to get all of my ingredients really smooth and pureed, but use whatever high-powered blender you have.

This zingy, deep red smoothie is a new fav in our home and a huge hit with all three of my toddlers, two of which are beet-avoidant. So, give it a go, serve it to your whole family and enjoy! If you make this and love it, remember to share it in your Instagram stories and tag me @theglowblueprint.

Makes 2 16 oz. servings

1 whole orange, peeled
